Driver Ergonomics Assessments
Driver Ergonomics for cars and commercial vehicles, as well as 'neutral' (the term used to mean the positions that cause the least amount of strain and require the least amount of effort) posture and limb positions are important in ensuring comfort, driver alertness plus the prevention and management of musculoskeletal disorders.
Drivers may be spending significant lengths of time in vehicles with sedentary positions, which increases the risk of MSDs and discomfort as much as when working at a computer workstation in an office. Additional aspects of vehicle driving include road safety, alertness and vision of the road and vehicle controls.
Business drivers often carry items such as equipment, marketing material, product samples and documents. Loading these into the vehicle involves handling of loads, which pose further areas of MSD risks.
In-depth Driver Ergonomic assessment.
1 x60 minute Assessment, carried out with the driver and their vehicle. They consist of considerations for:
- The driver's pain or discomfort conditions (based on a brief interview of the driver)
- Driving tasks and time spent with each
- Set up of the seat, steering wheel and mirrors in the way that will help to manage, and avoid the aggravation of, any conditions as well as improve comfort, vision and driver alertness (present equipment and time permitting)
- Loads carried and their storage within the vehicle, for handling and load retention safety
Follow-up report with the assessment's findings and any further recommended action that may be identified, including a description of any adjustments that could not be completed during the assessment plus details of any additional products to enable the employer to source a design of product with the critical features for helping with the driver's conditions.
